Coronaviruses come from a large group of viruses that cause diseases. These include the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). SARS-CoV-2 was first discovered in China and probably originated in animals. It is still not clear how the virus has affected people. The virus mutates over time because it adapts to humans. Some of these mutations, such as the new Delta form, can spread more easily than the original virus and cause more serious illness. How COVID-19 spreads?
